Why Swimmetra?

I really admire the designs and diversity in Overwatch a lot, and was very excited when the game heroes were first announced! There are a number of character designs I would love to cosplay because they look so cool, would be a neat challenge to create!

Symmetra is one that I've been wanting to do a full costume for, but until I get around to doing the full outfit, I thought this swimsuit would be tons of fun to do with Akakioga's "Swimwatch" group! I was very close to dropping the project since I was short on time, but whipped this out the Thursday before I was supposed to leave for ColossalCon, and managed to get it finished!

About This Costume

The blue part of the swimsuit is made using the backside of baby blue mystique, and the gold parts are the right side of gold mystique. The black on the bottom was Yaya Han's matte spandex, and the mesh in the front is Joann's performance mesh. As for the tulle sash, that's also from Joann Fabrics!

The swimsuit design was tricky simply because I had so many ideas and wasn't sure how I wanted it to work. Plunging necklines were very in season, so I wanted to incorporate that somehow. I thought the mesh added a neat feature and sort of lended itself to Symmetra's athletic mesh on her sleeves and stockings, while the opaque black mimicked her bottoms.

I didn't have time to complete the visor and arm, or any manner of props, so I just tried to use various accessories that complimented the suit as well as made nods to her design, such as doing a jewelry piece for the hair similar to her visor, getting glasses that mimicked the silhouette of hers, and using a volleyball as a prop in place of her gun.

All in all, I really enjoyed how this fun little project came out, and I can't wait to create the real deal! I've started work on her dress and patterning some of her armor already, so stay tuned, as I plan to finish her in the near future!
